INTEGRATED MULTI-MATERIAL STRUCTURES

P6

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING OF GRADIENT LATTICE STRUCTURES

To enable better energy absorption characteristics in front structure crush dynamics in order to reduce injury criteria for all frontal crash modes including full frontal, ODB, SORB and pedestrian protection.

Additive manufacturing provides the opportunity to tune frontal body structural architectures such that the crash dynamics are optimized to reduce injury criteria for occupants in all major modes. This project will help to document the extent and current cost to implement such structures.

Technical Case

Additive Manufacturing enables a design freedom in manufacturing that is not possible in any other type of manufacturing. One of the great  advantages of this is the possibility of grading materials and structures to control deformation including crash pulses.
